We had a brilliant idea in the early days of BDAA to get disabled children out fishing, but with no money or resources to make it a reality we were struggling, enter the English Federation of Sport who helped us put a bid together for the National lottery and various grant giving organisation to help make it a reality. We would provide basic fishing tackle for example whips, floats etc in a branded pack with the charities name on for every child that attends our in school workshops.
Fishing mats which looked like real water, accessible wheelchair platforms to fish from and artificial fish to catch with the adapted 4m whips would form the indoor experience, followed by a practical days fishing on a real accessible fishery in the West Midlands Albrighton Moat Trust . The bid went in with the detailed plan for the project and its future, sadly we were unsuccessful with the final bid as the funders didn't think it was realistic or we as a charity couldn't manage the money to make it work. Ironically EFDS turned the fishing idea into a football idea and were successful and still today 20 years on its a success.
Disappointed we shelved the project until 15 years later when we were approached by a new organisation Dreamstore to see how they could help us as a charity, showing them the idea they put the project together on our design and development and allowed us to deliver it for them. Although still not ours it was a delight to see the project in schools and for us to prove that our ideas do work with the right people and financial support we can achieve our dreams to help disabled children and adults.
Now known as the Dreamstore Education Zone it has been delivered in England, Scotland & Wales we are proud to see it thrive and to have developed the scheme for Dreamstore.
