We developed a series of fishing competitions on a weekly basis culminating in a grand final for disabled anglers as there was a lack of organised events for disabled people. The administration costs were covered by the charity with income generated by the competitors allowing a 100% prize pay out for weekly and final winners. The competitions were designed to ensure we met the needs of disabled people, consultant with them gave us the information of what type of competitions they preferred. All areas of the UK were invited to enter offering a wider scale of participation, as the numbers increased we needed to diversify and introduce regional and specific method of fishing competition & team events. The competitions became extremely popular with the regional heats for both individuals and teams disabled participants from as far as Devon to Cumbria and Northeast England all attending in the prestigious event.
We created a new organisation separate to BDAA run by a former trustee and named it "United Kingdom Disabled Match Fishing Council" (UKDMFC) we officially ended our competitions and handed over the reigns of the National championships to UKDMFC eleven years ago along with the equipment and a small start up fund so we could concentrate on the other aims and objectives of the charity such as access and facilities provision. The competitions continue flourishing under UKDMFC demonstrating our strategy works.
