Introduction to angling

BDAA trustees developed a unique idea to introduce fishing to children in schools who had various disabilities, never tackled before the team of BDAA volunteers raised the funds and contacted local Special education schools with the idea. After visiting the schools and discussing the idea we teamed up with Border fisheries, Angling Times, Internet forum volunteers & the National Lottery to stage the day with volunteers donating, time skills, money and most of all respect. Celebrity anglers supported the day Bob Nudd, Matt Hayes, the late and great Jan Porter just to name a few turned up and helped with advice and skills to help the children catch fish.

After months of planning and worry about working with disabled children, we realised we can make a change in the history of angling by highlighting that there is a minority community that can benefit angling if they had the support. BDAA took this on board and that one day turned into multiple projects that you can read about in the following case studies.
